Shirley Y. Wallis, 88 formerly of Prophetstown and Walnut died Saturday March 2, 2024 at Rock River Hospice and Home in Sterling.
She was born on July 3, 1935 in Toulon, IL the daughter of Earl Wayne and Margaret Adams (Catton) Griffin. She married John B. Wallis on October 17, 1953 in Toulon. He died March 20, 2014. She was employed for 27 years at General Electric in Morrison. Shirley was a master gardener. She enjoyed playing bingo and had collected Pillsbury Dough Boys. She and her late husband were active in the Democratic Party and had served as a precinct committee person.
Survivors include her daughter Teresa (Ron) Ludlow of Dixon; her son John Wallis of Rochelle; her sister Diana Boggs; five grandchildren: Kori (Justin) DeMay, Kari Kresanek, Michael Wallis, Mallory Ellis and Haley Wallis; and four great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband and her brother Donald Griffin.
A gathering of friends and family will take place on Saturday March 9, 2024 from 10 – 11 AM at the Garland Funeral Home in Walnut. Memorial services will follow at 11 AM with Gary Brooks officiating. Burial will conclude at Walnut Cemetery.
