W. Marvin Anderson Obituary

W. Marvin “Andy” Anderson, 88, of Walnut, IL passed away Thursday, February 22, 2024 at OSF Hospital in Peoria, IL.

Marvin was born November 10, 1935 to Walter and Betty (Peterson) Anderson, in the home he was raised in just outside of Coleta, IL.  He married Beverly Beattie on August 27, 1960 in Sterling, IL.

Marvin and Bev farmed on the family farm near Coleta until 1971, when they moved to Walnut, IL, where Marvin worked for PAG Seed Corn Company which became Cargill, until the plant closed in October of 1987.  He then worked at CGH Hospital in Sterling until he retired in May of 2002.  Marvin was a member of the Walnut United Methodist Church.  Marvin cared deeply for his family and never missed an opportunity to attend activities of his children and grandchildren.  He enjoyed refinishing antique furniture and building numerous pieces of furniture for his wife, children, and grandchildren.  He also enjoyed remodeling his home as well as those of his children.  He loved working and could be found outdoors tending to his vegetable and many flower gardens and keeping his yard in top shape.  Marvin enjoyed many vacations to Florida, Grand Canyon, Alaska, Germany, and Sweden with his family.  He was delighted to visit the site of the home where his mother lived in Sweden before she immigrated to America.  He and Bev enjoyed hosting family get-togethers at Christmas and the 4th of July.

Marvin is survived by his children, Doug of Paxton, IL, Kim (Doug) Johnson of Washington, IL, Jeff of Paxton, and Diane of Paxton; 3 grandchildren, Ross (Hannah) Johnson of Mahomet, IL, Ryan Johnson of St. Louis, MO, and Reid Johnson of Arlington, TX; 1 great granddaughter, Isla Johnson; a sister Lola Glafka of Walnut, and a sister-in-law, Ruth Allen of Owatonna, MN, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; and siblings, LeRoy (Lois) Anderson, Gen Wagner, Everett (Barb) Anderson, Helen (Ralph) Miller, Betty (Malcolm) Pollock, Dorothy (Bob) Brown, Hazel (Don) Brown, Neil Anderson, Donald Anderson; and brother-in-law, Bill Glafka.
